October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM): a time dedicated to honoring victims who have been killed, supporting individuals who are navigating violence, and increasing awareness around preventative measures for the community. Throughout this month-long initiative, Kent County organizations come together to raise awareness and create a culture of prevention around issues of domestic abuse. Visit this page for regular DVAM event updates!
In past years, the DVCCRT launched an initiative to feature purple ribbon magnets on GRPD police vehicles–a tradition that has continued this year. Other annual events include the Candlelight Vigil and Clothesline Project hosted by the YWCA, A Journey in Their Shoes hosted by Safe Haven Ministries, and DVCCRT’s October Noontime Educational Forum. Last year’s forum consisted of a panel of experts who facilitate Batterers Intervention Programs across Kent and Ottawa counties.
CCRT Noontime Forum: October 27, 12-1:30pm
The Kent County Domestic Violence Community Coordinated Response Team will host a Noontime Educational Forum on Domestic Violence Court and recently passed domestic violence laws @ Kent County Court House, 180 Ottawa Ave NW, Grand Rapids (5th floor conference room).
Silent Observer: Month-long Initiative
The CCRT has partnered with Silent Observer for the month of October to release this poster highlighting 24 people with Domestic Violence warrants. We ask the community to contact Silent Observer anonymously at 774-2345 as to their whereabouts. Those pictured are innocent until proven guilty, but these subjects need to follow through with due process for the benefit of the victims and families that have been affected.
