OCTOBER 4 — CANDLELIGHT VIGIL @ MONUMENT PARK, GRAND RAPIDS, 5:30-6:00 PM

Remembering those who have died as a result of domestic violence. @ Monument Park on the NE corner of Fulton and Division in Grand Rapids. Sponsored by the Kent County Domestic Violence Community Coordinated Response Team. (If poor weather, the event will be held at the YWCA, 25 Sheldon Blvd. SE)

OCTOBER 5 — IT’S ON US: SILENT WITNESS PROGRAM @ GVSU ALLENDALE CAMPUS, 12:00-1:30 PM

Attend the 12th Anniversary of the Silent Witness remembrance program held by the GVSU Women’s Center. Each Silent Witness figure tells the story of someone who died in the past year as a result of domestic violence @ the Kirkhof Center, room 2266 (second floor).

OCTOBER 8 — DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SEMINAR, @ SAFE HAVEN MINISTRIES 9:00-11:30 AM

A training for community members who may occasionally work with victims and survivors of domestic violence or for anyone interested in learning more about domestic abuse and Safe Haven’s work. This event is free to attend. Register online at safehavenministries.org/events or call 616.452.6664.

OCTOBER 12 — FRIENDS AND FAMILY SEMINAR, @ SAFE HAVEN MINISTRIES 6:00-8:00 PM

Open to friends and family members of victims/survivors of domestic violence. During this 2-hour seminar, participants will learn more about domestic violence and ways to support someone that has or is currently experiencing violence. Participants will also develop tools to engage in safety planning and long-term planning for themselves and those experiencing violence. This event is free to attend. OCTOBER 15-19 — THE GRAND RAPIDS BLUE BRIDGE WILL BE ILLUMINATED IN PURPLE LIGHTS IN HONOR OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH.*

OCTOBER 19 — BEYOND THE COLOR: ILLUMINATING THE VOICES OF SURVIVORS, 6:30-8:30 PM

A community event honoring the stories of survivors through art, music, and spoken word. Refreshments and resources provided. @ New Life United Church of Christ, 1841 Havana Ave SW, Wyoming MI. *Sponsored by Center for Women in Transition, GVSU Campus Violence Prevention Team, Hispanic Center of Western Michigan, National Organization for Women (NOW–GR), Planned Parenthood, Safe Haven Ministries, and YWCA West Central Michigan.

OCTOBER 20 — WORKSHOP TO END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE by LUNDY BANCROFT, 9:30am-4:00 PM

OCTOBER 20 — A NIGHT IN THEIR SHOES FASHION SHOW, @ GRAND RAPIDS DOWNTOWN MARKET, 6-8 PM

A one-of-a-kind event that blends the spirit of fashion with a celebration of survivors in our community including an evening of a premiere runway performance, delicious hors d’oeuvres and a variety of local vendors, whose entrepreneurship echoes our efforts to lift up courageous women. OCTOBER 24 — OPENING DOORS TO THE VOICES OF SURVIVORS, 4:00-7:00 PM
